Post Mingle VS Buddypress
on: Jan 02, 01:55 AM

I first found the mingle forum, and I was impressed by the forum features.
Now I am planning to use Mingle instead of buddypress for community development.
The community here looks great, and I will try to make somthing simular.
How is the coding compared to byddypress?
Is it easyer to modyfy, and is the code making the site faster or slower than buddypress on a simular setup?

Everythig about mingle is better than BuddyPress. Tried it in the past and removed it. You can use mingle forum in conjunction with it and it blends in with mingle as here. Faster than BP as well..

It looks great so far :)
One of the things I like best is that it uses the same themes as Wordpress itself, instead of the complex theme structure in Buddypress.
I have not used so much yet, but one thing I would like to modify ois the privacy levels. I would like to have a totally open community where both guest and members can read everything. Is there some way to control the privacy level in Mingle?
In Buddypress it is open for everybody by default, while Mingle have it closed by default..

Basicly it has more to do with privacy issues more than any other reason. I might not want you to see me or what i have to say (gaain a privacy issue) . Others will see that are are in the development and will respond as well. How soow cannot say, we are in heavy development of a few pluggins at this time .

I saw you had a plugin offering most of what I was thinking of.
It made everything els than the activity public.
I see you have a lot of great plugins avilable for a fair price. I think that is a great solution for both mingle and the users. To me it is important that the developers sitck around, and I am willing to pay for good plugins.

You can open up the profiles pretty easily - but the hack opens up all profiles - which is seemingly fine for most social network users on smaller networks.

The big problem with mingle is the code base. its pretty hard to work with - uses tables for layouts and is generally not very well documented. But there is a community of people using it so will hopefully see some updates in the future.

Just my 2 cents.

No one helps with support issues.
Nothing has been heard from the author for weeks.
BP is far better than mingle.

Agreed - pulling my hair out trying to get some issues figured out - oh well...

But Mingle is more light weight than BP so can be better depending on the project - just wish Mingle wasnt dying a slow development death...
